The opening social for the 2007/2008 season was held on Saturday 20th October in the function room of the Bowhill hotel in Cardenden. The usual stalwarts and friends had gathered for another enjoyable evening compered by our jovial M.C. Archie Abercrombie. After an opening welcome by our president Robert Garmory, the evening's accompanist George Laing took the stage and soon started getting everyone up on the floor.
The evening was interspersed with items from around the hall including songs from Nancy Smith, Humphrey Evry, Tom Hopton, Alex Abercrombie, Jim Chalmers & David F Macdonald. There were also recitations from Wilf Alsop who gave us "The Night That The Bairnie Came Hame"by David Rorie and Robert Shepherd who has not been at any of the socials for 16 years gave us a lovely rendering of the "Wonderer" by Robert Service.
It was good to see Robert back again after all these years and we hope that he manages to come to more functions . It was also pleasant to see him accompanied by his son Robin and his wife. Let's hope that they manage to attend more socials in the future as it is always a welcome sight to see new faces.
There was a break in the middle for coffee/tea, pies & bridge rolls and if you were lucky enough being quick in the queue you got first pick of the cakes!
David F Macdonald (senior) then went around hall selling everyone raffle tickets. And after a few dances in the 2nd half the treasurer David J Macdonald (junior) then did the draw for the raffle which had 15 terrific prizes donated from the people attending in the hall. Archie also managed to arrange a few spot prize dances in between the rest of the dances and singers.
Finally it was time for everyone on the floor for "Auld Lang Syne" to finish off a good start to our social events.
The Christmas dance will be held on Saturday the 15th December 2007 at same venue as above. For tickets please contact
